{"id":11967,"date":"2004-07-02T14:16:48","date_gmt":"2004-07-02T12:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reflections.it\/wordpress\/?p=11967"},"modified":"2025-12-27T09:20:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-27T08:20:08","slug":"against-the-ropes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reflections.it\/wordpress\/against-the-ropes\/","title":{"rendered":"Against the Ropes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il film racconta la storia di un sogno, quello della manager Jackie Kallen, nata e cresciuta con addosso l&#8217;odore umido e stantio delle palestre di Detroit, nipote del valente boxeur Ray Ray Kallen, costretta a subire una serie di colpi bassi dalla vita, che un giorno gli offre la possibilit\u00e0 di riscattarsi puntando tutto (o quasi) su un giovane e sfortunato talento, Luther Shaw, bodyguard di un vecchio pugile, strafatto di droghe ed educato alla violenta e distratta legge dei ghetti neri. Il cinema ha dato pi\u00f9 volte prova di saper gestire casi di celebrit\u00e0, anche sportiva mettendo in fila una serie di successi ispirati alla vita di campioni ancora in attivit\u00e0 o vecchie glorie da album dei ricordi; questa volta, nonostante i tentativi del regista di allontanarsi da i vari clichet che il genere impone, il risultato \u00e8 mediocre a cominciare dalla prova opaca e non convincente della Ryan. L&#8217;ex Sally, smessi finalmente i panni di amante o eroina innamorata, si tuffa in una serie di progetti che non esaltano le doti brillanti e fascinose che l&#8217;avevano distinta nell&#8217;ambito di un certo tipo di commedia americana nella met\u00e0 degli anni Ottanta e, qui si trova in ogni scena a sfoggiare le avvenenti grazie (\u00e8 a dir poco bellissima) e capi sempre diversi e sfavillanti. Dal canto suo anche Omar Epps non sembra esplodere in questa interpretazione di leone domato da un saggio e prudente trainer (lo stesso regista Charles D. Tutto gi\u00e0 visto insomma: altro che incursione femminile nel mondo del sesso forte, \u00e8 una cantilena fastidiosa quella di Dutton trafitta da una colonna sonora, a firma Michael Kamen, in bilico tra il &#8216;gangsta rap&#8217; e lo swing.\u00a0<em>Against the Ropes<\/em>\u00a0in America non ha ottenuto un grande successo e l&#8217;uscita nelle sale \u00e8 stata accompagnata da un divieto ai minori di tredici anni per il linguaggio crudo e volgare e per la violenza di alcune sequenze: senza voler fare n\u00e8 i moralisti, tantomeno i censori, per una volta il limite imposto alla pellicola d&#8217;oltreoceano ci pare giusto, anche perch\u00e9 spesso alcuni dialoghi e battute finiscono solo per irritare gli spettatori, alle prese con l&#8217;ennesimo modello gergale strasfruttato negli ambienti malfamati e non troppo rispettabili. La boxe ne esce sconfitta da questa &#8220;originale&#8221; trasposizione sulla carriera di una delle pi\u00f9 importanti affariste in gonnella nel campo professionistico: dimentichiamo allora il nefasto progetto e teniamo a mente i ritratti calzanti di figure quali Rocky Balboa, Rocky Graziano e in ultimo il formidabile spaccato sociale e politico di due grandi registi Norman Jewison e Michael Mann su due stelle del firmamento mondiale di tutti i tempi, Ruby Hurricane Carter e Cassius Clay questi s\u00ec da goderceli a pieno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">di Ilario
